Enthalpy Recovery Wheel

Description

The enthalpy recovery wheel installed in the FRV 2000 unit has a diameter of 32 inches, and depth of 6 inches. The normal air flow through the wheel is 2000 cfm and the wheel rotates at approximately 30 rpm between outside and building exhaust air streams. The wheel recovers both sensible (temperature) and latent (moisture) energy. The working principle of the heat recovery process can be explained in the Psychrometric chart as shown in the picture. In cooling season, the heat recovery wheel cools and dehumidifies the outside air by exchanging heat between warm outside air and cool building exhaust air. In heating season, it outside air is heated and humidified; the heat from building exhaust air is recovered to the outside fresh air. From the psychromatic chart, we can see the mixing point, as the supply air condition is located between return and exhaust air, closer to the return air point; which represents the overall heat recovery efficiency approaches up to 80%.
